Silchar Press Club announces year long golden jubilee celebrations

Silchar Press Club organised a programme on Wednesday to celebrate its 54th anniversary. The event was graced by the club’s founder, poet and writer Atin Das, who flew a pair of pigeons for world wide peace as well as making the advent of year-long celebration. The event also featured a discussion on “Journalistic Ethics and the Responsibility of the State” where various speakers discussed their views on the topic.

The speakers emphasized that although journalists work tirelessly and often put their lives at risk to provide news to society, their freedom and safety are still in question. They emphasised the need for unbiased, impartial journalism and for the protection of the rights and freedoms of journalists. The speakers also urged journalists to maintain their independence and protect their rights, while keeping in mind their responsibilities towards society and the state.

Established in 1970, the Silchar Press Club has overcome various obstacles and has now reached a special stage. Under the shadow of Silchar Press Club every journalist and media person in the district will be able to address their various issues and demands. The guests have also expressed hope that Silchar Press Club’s growth will be accompanied by the successful and meaningful celebration of the year-long golden jubilee event with everyone’s support. The event was marked by the gracious presence of Vijay Kumar Bhattacharjee, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, Sanjeev Debnath, Bikash Chakraborty as well as others.
