Silchar Railway Station and Cachar Administration continue eviction drive in Tarapur; 77 establishments demolished
The eviction drive of the NF Railway that started on March 29, continued today as well. In a joint drive for eviction, a total of 77 encroached establishments were evicted on March 29. Other than the Indian Railway Authorities, District Administration, Circle Officer of Sadar Circle, Assam Police and Railway Police Force personnel were also present.
In previous notices, the Indian Railway has urged the trespassers dwelling on the Railway’s land between India Club and the Tarapur Athletic Club to vacate their homes. The Estate which plans to an expansion of the present Silchar Railway Station has also warned these residents of forced eviction long back in early February. Even after repeated attempts when the estate couldn’t vacate the land, they resorted to forced eviction yesterday.
Yesterday, 77 encroached establishments were targeted and 67 of these encroached areas were fully dismantled and completely cleared. In continuation of the drive, today the remaining 10 such encroached establishments were completely cleared.
With the help of two JCB bulldozers, 15 track maintainers and five labourers, the eviction drive was carried out.
