Silchar: School Employee Alleges Sexual Abuse by Principal; Principal Denies, Claims Employee Sought Raise

A young employee of Sarala Birla Gyanjyoti Senior Secondary School in Silchar has levelled serious allegations against the school’s principal, Mrinmoy Kanti Das. The 22-year-old employee claims that he was sexually abused by Mrinmoy Das for almost a year. As the sole breadwinner for his family, he endured the abuse out of fear of losing his job.

However, when the abuse intensified and he protested, he was dismissed from his position. The young man has filed a formal complaint at Rangirkhari Police Outpost regarding the incident. In response, the principal has denied the allegations, suggesting that the employee had ulterior motives and was seeking a raise.

According to the complaint, the young man has been working at the school since 2020. Mrinmoy Das joined the school as principal about a year ago. Shortly after assuming his position, Mrinmoy Das began directing the young man to perform personal tasks at his flat after school hours. Complying with these instructions, the employee started working at the principal’s flat, where he alleges the abuse began.

The young man stated in his complaint that he is the sole breadwinner for his family, which compelled him to endure Mrinmoy Das’s alleged misconduct. However, as the abuse escalated, he decided to stop working at the principal’s flat. On July 1, after informing Mrinmoy Das of his decision, he was reportedly fired in retaliation. Following this, the alleged victim filed a complaint with the Rangirkhari Police on July 5.

When questioned about the allegations, Mrinmoy Das categorically denied them. He stated that he only sent the young man to his flat for cooking duties and that the young man would leave before he returned home from school. Mrinmoy Das asserted that they were never alone together in the flat, making the allegations implausible. He further claimed that the young man had previously made similar false accusations against the former principal and had approached a panchayat member in Meherpur. Mrinmoy Das believes the young man’s mother orchestrated these accusations, having demanded additional payment for the cooking services, which he refused to provide.

Why was a retired army officer making the school peon do his household chores and that too without any payment?

Mrinmoy Das, the retired army officer turned school principal, highlighted that the school has seen significant improvements since his tenure began. He also refuted the claim of dismissing the young man, stating that he remains employed at the school. Meanwhile, a police source confirmed that they have received the complaint and are currently investigating the matter.
