Silchar Shocker: Wife Fatally Attacks Husband with Dao and Knife in Brutal Domestic Dispute
A tragic incident occurred in Green Lane, near Satsang Ashram Road, Silchar, on Monday morning. A domestic fight between a couple led to a brutal bloodied attack. The husband was fatally hit by the wife using a dao (machete) and knife. This left the husband in a bloodied condition with his head badly hurt, while the neighbours had to restrain the wife, who had become out of control from the rage.
Bittu Das, a goldsmith by profession from Lala Bazaar in Hailakandi district, had recently moved into a rented room in the house of Samar Chandra Das, leaving his previous residence in Ambicapatty a week ago. On the day of the incident, his wife, Mousumi Das, allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, resulting in severe injuries.
The house owner, Rinki Das, reported hearing sudden screams and commotion from the couple’s room. When she attempted to check, she found the door locked from the inside. The house owner said, “I heard the cries of their child from inside and the husband (Bittu Das) was also screaming. When I asked them to open the door, they didn’t. Fearing a serious incident, I along with the other tenants had to forcefully break open the door”.
What the neighbours saw inside was spine-chilling. “We saw that Bittu Das was lying in a pool of blood and a dao and knife was on the floor. We tried to stop the wife from attacking him but she was out of our control”, further said the house owner.
Another neighbour Rupak Choudhury also explained, “We don’t know why they were fighting. When we entered their room, we saw the wife had a knife in her hand and she was out of control. To stop her we had to tie her with ropes to restrain her. Seeing the gruesome attack on him and him bleeding out, we sent him to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital”.
The motive behind the attack is suspected to be a domestic dispute, as Mousumi Das reportedly used the opportunity of holding their child to prevent Bittu Das from defending himself. Later the local police were informed and booked the wife Mousumi Das after a case was filed. The accused has been apprehended by the police.
A case has been filed at the local police station, and the investigation is ongoing. The community is in shock, as neighbours and locals grapple with the horrific nature of the incident.
