Silchar: Temple Priest Found Dead Outside Aryan Apartment Complex, Family Alleges Suspicion
In a shocking incident, the body of a priest was discovered early today outside Aryan Apartment on NN Dutta Road, Silchar. The deceased, identified as Ajit Chaubey, had been serving as a priest at the temple within Aryan Apartment for an extended period. Originally from Sonai’s New Ramnagar, Chaubey was a familiar face among residents, who are now shaken by his sudden and mysterious death.
The discovery was made this morning at the front of the apartment complex. Law enforcement officers reached the scene promptly upon receiving reports, securing the area before taking Chaubey’s body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for a post-mortem examination. The family suspects foul play, as they noted unusual circumstances surrounding his death.
Ajit Chaubey’s wife, Ranjana Chaubey, spoke to the media and revealed some troubling details. She mentioned that after dinner, her husband chose to sleep in a different room with his brother-in-law, Debojit Pandey. Around 2:30 am, Chaubey reportedly went outside but did not return. When he was still missing by 3:30 am, Pandey alerted the family, who initially thought he might be using the bathroom. However, upon further search, they realised he was nowhere inside the premises. A family member then looked out of the window and saw Chaubey lying on the ground outside.
Ranjana Chaubey also pointed out a disturbing fact—the temple gate, which they usually lock before going to bed, was found open. The lock key remained inside the room, which added to the family’s suspicions that Ajit Chaubey did not leave of his own accord. Ranjana insisted that her husband would never harm himself, further fuelling the family’s belief that there could be foul play involved.
Attempt to reach Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta for more information didn’t take any shape, as his phone was unreachable. Police have, however, initiated an investigation into the incident, examining possible leads to determine whether this was an unfortunate accident or an intentional act.
