Silchar Youth Congress performs symbolic protest against Daimary's statement by sitting under the shade of trees

Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary recently made an insensitive remark on electricity tariffs which has created controversy in the state. Apart from condemning his statement, netizens are trolling him on social media. Politicians have also joined the game.

The Silchar Youth Congress (SYC) today staged a protest infront of the Silchar Circuit House under the shade of trees following the advice of Speaker Biswajit Daimary to save electricity costs.

Speaking to reporters, a Youth Congressi said “Recently the people of Assam have started protesting against the prepaid meter system alleging that the bill has increased manifold. Daimary made an insensitive comment and said that the bill will increase, if they can’t pay then they should turn off their fans and sit under the shade of trees.”

He added, “Hence we Youth Congressis have sit under the shade of trees today. We condemn his statement made against the public. It came to our knowledge that the Speaker has more than 20 ACs in his house. We urge him to come out of his AC room and sit in the shade of trees alongwith the common people or else he should stop mocking the public.”
