SMC administration suspends five PG students from hostel accommodation
A brawl in one of the hostels inside Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) premises has led to five post graduate students losing their hostel accommodation.
Day before yesterday, five senior students who got their enrolment through Centre Quota barged into a hostel and thrashed couple of junior students. As per sources in the campus, the senior students were trying to rag junior students and that is what led to the brawl.
“Couple of juniors resisted them, which they did not take kindly. The same night they went to the hostel and physically assaulted the juniors,” adds the source.
Principal cum chief superintendent Dr Babul Bezbaruah along with couple of other professors rushed to the hostel at night to take a stalk of the situation.
“We went there late night and tried to calm the situation,” said Bezbaruah, speaking to Barak Bulletin. He added, “Yesterday we decided to suspend the five PG students involved in the brawl from hostel and now they will have to arrange their accommodation outside the campus.”
We have not named the students on the principal’s request.
