SMCH reports highest number of admission in one day, 5 deaths; 332 positive in Cachar, Karimganj 120, Hailakandi 112

Though there is a slight but constant decline in the positivity rate in Cachar, the number of symptomatic and critical patients continues to rise abnormally. Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) has been the core of Barak Valley’s fight against COVID and has treated the first COVID infection in the state has witnessed the most number of admissions today.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) informed that 50 patients took admission to SMCH’s covid wards today. Earlier, the highest number of patients admitted in one day was 33. Dr. Gupta informed, currently, 255 individuals are being treated at the COVID wards of SMCH, and out of them, 96 are in ICU while 16 patients have been put under ventilator. 124 patients are now on oxygen support, while 14 patients have been discharged today.

Five patients have been declared dead at SMCH in the last 24 hours. Siraj Uddin Choudhury, 78 years from Shahabad, Lala, Hailakandi District was admitted at Silchar Medical College Hospital on May 14 and he breathed his last on May 18 at 5: 50 p.m.

Husnara Begum Choudhury aged 40 years from also from Lala, Hailakandi was admitted to the SMCH on May 18 in the morning and was declared dead on May 18 in the night at 9:30.

56-year-old Shankar Paul Choudhury from Tarapur, Silchar was admitted to Silchar Medical College Hospital on 16th May and breathed his last on 18th May at 10: 45 p.m. 70 years old Dilip Roy of Sarat Pally Silchar was admitted to SMCH on 15th May and expired today morning at 7 am. 74-year-old Jiten Kangsa Banik of Bilpar, Silchar got admitted on 17th May was declared today at 12-40 pm.

Till 8:00 pm, as per the update shared by District Health Department, 332 individuals have tested positive in Cachar. Many RT-PCR reports are pending so the number can further rise. Similarly, in the Hailakandi district till 6:00 pm, 122 samples tested positive.

Karimganj registered 102 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 6,210. Of the 120 active cases detected on Wednesday, 117 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and three under RT-PCR.

The district has currently 679 active COVID-19 cases while 222 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Wednesday. 3,911 swab samples were collected on Wednesday, which includes 3,828 tests conducted under RAT and 83 tests under RT-PCR.
