SMCH's Forensic department announced as containment zone; postmortems to be temporarily shifted to Karimganj

Dr. Orina Raha, of the Forensic Medicine Department, Silchar Medical College and Hospital tested COVID19 positive earlier today. The doctor did not have any travel history and her test report has left the administration shocked.

The Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah informed that the Forensic Medicine Department has been declared as a containment zone. Moreover, 10 colleagues of R. Orina Raha have been placed under quarantine.

The Forensic medicine department takes care of all the postmortems and forensic investigations in criminal cases. “We have had a meeting with the district administration and I have briefed DC madam (Keerthi Jalli) about the situation. She is in discussion with the government and we will act as per the procedure,” said Bezbaruah.

He added that for the time being, he has suggested DC Keerthi Jallii to temporarily shift all the postmortems to Karimganj Civil Hospital, “That is my proposal which is subject to approval. We will act as suggested by the government,” he added.

Raha’s sample was collected for a test under the Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme. Apart from Dr. Orina Raha, 61-year-old Supriti Paul a resident of Rongpur Das Para area also tested positive without a travel history. She had developed symptoms and then got admitted to the SMCH.
