Smoke in Barak Brahmaputra Express Causes Panic, CPRO Cites Brake Binding Issue

Passengers aboard the Barak Brahmaputra Express were gripped with panic on Saturday night (February 22) when smoke was seen coming out of the train as it reached Behara Station, near Kalain area of Cachar, around 9 PM. The incident brought the train to a halt, causing temporary chaos.

The source of the smoke, however, was not a major hazard. It resulted from brake binding, a condition where the brake blocks grip the wheels too tightly, restricting movement and generating friction.

“This is a case of smoke due to brake binding in the wheel of one of the sleeper coaches of the train. The issue has been attended, and the train has already left Behara Station after a delay of around 45 minutes,” said Kapinjal Kishor Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NF Railway, while speaking to Barak Bulletin.

As the panic spread, passengers even started deboarding the train with their luggae. When asked about any mishaps or injuries, the CPRO assured that the situation was under control. “It was a case of brake binding, so there is no cause for concern,” he stated.

The train, which operates weekly between Silchar and New Tinsukia via Dimapur, resumed its journey without further issues.
