Snatching continues in Barak Valley; Miscreants snatch Rs 3 lakh from a man

Hailakandi district’s Katakhal-resident Manik Ali becomes the latest victim of the serial snatching going on in Barak Valley. One after another snatching incidences is taking place in Barak Valley and before one case is resolved a new one is lodged. Call it sorry or sad this situation is getting worse.

Monday afternoon, Manik Ali went to the Badarpur branch of Gramin Bank and had withdrawn Rs 3 lakh cash from his account. According to his statement, he was supposed to deposit the withdrawn cash at the Katakhal branch of the same bank. He said, as he left from the Badarpur branch, two miscreants riding on a two-wheeler snatched his bag and ran away.

A police complaint has been lodged but the Police are yet to make a breakthrough. Manik Ali informed that apart from the cash, he had a Jio handset, mobile charger, international passport and many other documents.

Such an incident during the day at such a busy area has shocked the locals. Many questioned the administration while few went on to allege that the bank officials are involved in this snatching scam. “How do the miscreants know which customer has withdrawn cash. People can come with a bag to deposit also. The miscreants always snatch the bag with cash, have we ever heard of a case where the miscreants ran away with an empty bag? The administration must investigate the matter and it is very much possible that someone inside the bank informs miscreants about withdrawals,” said a local.

Will 50-something Manik Ali get his hard-earned money back or is it going to be another complaint which will fade to oblivion remains to be seen. All eyes will now be on the investigating agencies…
