Sonai co-operative society vice-chairman Bilal Ahmed Khan dies in road mishap

A 34-year-old man Bilal Ahmed Khan died in a road mishap at Aulia Bazar, on the outskirts of Silchar, on Wednesday night.

The deceased was the vice-chairman of Sonai Co-Operative Society and is a renowned personality in Sonai area. Bilal, who was a resident of Dhanipur village in Sonai is survived by his mother, wife and two daughters.

According to sources, the mishap took place around 9:30pm on Wednesday night. Bilal, who was returning back home from Silchar, was riding on a motor-cycle which collided with a lorry parked on the roadside. As a result, Bilal was gravely injured.

He was thereafter rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital but considering his condition, doctors referred him to be taken to Guwahati. Bilal breathed his last around 3:30 am at Umkiang in Meghalaya while he was being taken to Guwahati.

His dead body was brought back to his home in the wee hours of Thursday. The news of his demise cast a spell of gloom in Sonai as residents in huge numbers gathered at his home to bid him the last farewell.

After the post-mortem at SMCH, the last rites were performed at a cremation site at Dhanipur around 4:30pm this evening. Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar, former principal of Sonai College Tajmul Ali Mazumder, Youngman Society’s president Taher Ahmed and Sonai Co-Operative Society’s former chairman Altaf Hussain Choudhury along with the local residents expressed their deep sorrow over the demise and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family members.
