Sonai MLA May Face 6 Months of Jail Time Claims Aminul Hoque Laskar

Former MLA Aminul Hoque Laskar recently held a press conference on April 12, clarifying the ongoing legal situation involving himself and MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya. Laskar made it clear that he didn’t file a case in the Supreme Court but instead in the Guwahati High Court against Barbhuiya regarding his education qualifications. The High Court requested Laskar to provide a written statement regarding his complaints against Barbhuiya.

In response, Barbhuiya challenged this order by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) at the Delhi High Court, directly challenging the Guwahati High Court’s order. After several days of hearings, the Supreme Court concluded arguments on March 19, with the judgement reserved for later. However, on March 20, Barbhuiya allegedly falsely claimed victory on Facebook before any verdict was reached, prompting Laskar to file a contempt case against him.

On April 8, the Supreme Court issued another order questioning Barbhuiya’s premature announcement of a verdict and asked him to explain why there shouldn’t be proceedings against him for contempt. Laskar warned that Barbhuiya could face up to six months in jail for his actions.

Laskar reiterated that the original case was about Barbhuiya’s education qualifications, alleging that he presented false certificates. Despite technical errors preventing a verdict, Laskar remains convinced that Barbhuiya’s certificates are indeed fake.

Looking ahead, Laskar vowed to defend his reputation by proving Barbhuiya’s certificates are false if he causes further legal trouble. He expressed readiness to face defamation charges, regardless of the cost.

It’s worth noting that Former MLA Aminul Hoque Laskar isn’t a big fan of AIUDF. In fact, recently addressing the media, he stated that one of the reasons why he left BJP is because BJP became an ally of AIUDF. After he left BJP, he joined the Indian National Congress.
