Sonai’s Amzad Amin Rahul Joins ISRO, Ranks 11th Nationwide: A Story of Resilience and Inspiration

Nagdirgram Part 3 in Sonai, Assam, is celebrating the incredible success of its son, Amzad Amin Rahul, who has become a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Securing the 11th rank in ISRO’s 2023 all India recruitment exam out of 153 candidates, Amzad’s achievement has brought immense pride to his family and community.

Traversing many unknown paths, Amzad reached where he is today. In a detailed interview Amzad shared his journey with us.

Amzad’s journey is a testament to perseverance and family support. Reflecting on his success, he said, “I thank Almighty Allah and my parents, who were my inspiration. Even at their age, they went above and beyond for me. My three sisters were always there, standing by my side. I owe everything to them.”

Amzad’s early education began at Kabuganj’s 141 No. Ram Charan School, followed by Lakshicharan High School, and later Adhar Chand High School in Silchar, where he passed his secondary exams with distinction. He pursued higher studies at Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree from NIT Silchar, and completed his MTech in Mechanical Design from IIT Kharagpur in 2024.

However, the path to success was not without challenges. Sharing his thoughts on the pressures faced by students today, iAmzad said, “Parents must understand that competitive exams are no longer just about studying. It’s about mental stability and confidence. At home, parents should avoid comparing their children to others. Instead, they should focus on building confidence. My family and close friends helped me immensely during moments of self-doubt. Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”

He also emphasised the importance of embracing failure. “People fear sharing their failures with their parents due to societal pressure, which often leads to depression. Parents need to create a supportive environment. Everyone’s journey is unique, and people achieve success at different times. It’s normal to change paths. What matters is perseverance and character.”

Amzad’s father, Mokabbir Ali Laskar, expressed his pride, saying, “From today, people will call me Amzad’s father. I am so happy Allah granted him this profession. I hope his research benefits society. I also want to thank his teachers, especially Atul Sir, whose guidance laid the foundation for his success.”

Amzad worked with Assam’s Jal Jeevan Mission and briefly at General Electric in Bangalore before joining ISRO. “ISRO was my dream. As a child, I always wanted to be a scientist, though I didn’t know about ISRO then. Over time, I realised that research was my true calling,” he shared.

To the younger generation, Amzad offered a piece of advice: “Keep trying. You never know when you’ll reach your destination. The struggles you face will shape you and teach you valuable lessons. Your ambitions might change, and that’s okay. Success comes in different forms and at different times for everyone.”

Amzad’s story is not just about achieving a prestigious role but also about the power of resilience, self-belief, and unwavering family support. It is a beacon of hope for young aspirants striving to overcome challenges and reach their dreams.
