Speeding truck transporting stones illegally kills youth in Dolu

In recent days, East-West Corridor has become a death trap for people of Silchar with frequent road accidents occuring in the entire Silchar-Balacherra stretch. Today evening a terrible road accident occured in the Dolu stretch of East West corridor where a speeding truck carrying illegal stones hit a pedestrian on the way killing him. The deceased youth has been identified as Deep Tanta aged 17-18 years of Kalain Krik Park Tea Garden.

After illegally loading the truck with stones from Jatinga riverside, the driver hit Deep Tanta at Dolu in the East West Corridor due to overspeeding. Seriously injured Deep was immediately rushed to the nearby local hospital but the doctors pronounced him dead. Hearing news of his demise, the locals became infuriated and the atmosphere got tensed. Later, police arrived at the spot and brought the angry mob under control.

Speaking to reporters Deep’s maternal uncle said, “The administration needs to look at these things. Today we lost a boy who was a priceless asset to us. He came here for attending a programme. In the evening he was standing by the roadside for going to the program and that’s when the truck hit him. The truck driver wanted to escape after hitting him but the locals present at the spot caught him.”

A local resident of Dolu told reporters, “We have been demanding to the MLA and DC since 3-4 years for setting up a traffic point here as there is a school nearby and students come here. The police do patrolling on Wednesday and stop vehicles which are on the wrong side of the road but don’t check vehicles which do overspeeding on the road.”
