SpiceJet withdraws Silchar - Chennai direct flight, gives slot for Delhi direct

Silchar Chennai direct flight was introduced by the Spicejet airlines with much cheer and effervescence this July. But not being able to survive even two months, the airlines has withdrawn the flight, succumbing to low occupancy.

The flight has been replaced by direct connectivity with Delhi, however that too hasn’t started yet.

“Airlines have amended their flight schedule for Silchar airport. Indigo flight 6E6573/6574 & Spicejet flight SG3836/3837 is now scheduled to operate daily. Spicejet has withdrawn the Chennai- Silchar flight & taken slot for direct flight to Delhi Airport,” Silchar airport tweet read on Friday.

Spicejet introduced the Chennai flight on 1st July this year, which was much celebrated. Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy too took to Twitter and thanked union aviation minister for his cooperation. But all posts seem to fade away, as the airlines decided to stop the service. If sources are to be believed, the route didn’t get much patronage which compelled the airlines to call off the service.

At present, there are 7 flights operating from Silchar civil airport, connecting Kolkata, Guwahati and Shillong. Spicejet airlines has booked a slot for operating a direct flight between Silchar and Delhi but the airlines has not yet announced the flight.
