Steel and wooden furniture manufacturing factory gutted in fire at Ashram Road, Silchar
A steel and wooden furniture manufacturing factory and quarters for workers were engulfed in a horrific fire that took place at Silchar Ashram Road. The incident of fire took place on Tuesday at around 12 noon at Ashish Choudhury Steel and Wooden Furniture Manufacturing Factory located in Tapaban Nagar Bazar, Ashram Road. The fire was brought under control after the arrival of three fire engines and the efforts of the locals.
However, the factory was completely gutted by fire alongwith three houses where the workers lived. Locals alleged that owner had himself ignited the fire. The National Highway Police arrived at the spot after hearing news of the incident. Though the exact cause of the fire is not yet known but the damage is estimated to be several lakhs of rupees.
Speaking to reporters a local said, “The owner of the factory set fire to the godown for getting insurance money. They cause fires frequently for getting insurance money and it affects the houses of locals instead.”
