Student found dead in a residence in Ambicapatty; "Suicide or murder," brother urges Police to investigate
Sunday morning, the people of Durgashankar Lane woke up to shocking visuals of a young boy sitting on the ground with his neck tied with high-strength elastic ropes that are normally used to hook in motorcycles. In fact, the rope was tied with a lightweight steel pole inside his room that is used to hang clothes with hanger.
The deceased happens to be Abhijit Roy, a student of Karimganj College who used to stay with his uncle (jethu) in Silchar. While he originally hails from Karimganj itself, his brother Amit Roy says, because his uncle and aunt used to love him a lot, he used to stay with them in Silchar.
According to Amit Roy, his jethu called him at around 9:00 am to inform him that his brother Abhijit Roy has killed himself. “Before that, he called someone else and they broke into the room to find him dead. My brother wakes up late, and it is known to everyone. In such a scenario, why did they break into the room at 9? What prompted them to do so?” Amit Roy questioned.
He added, “He was sitting and there wasn’t enough height for someone to hang himself to death. We have our doubts if this is a suicide or murder and we urge the Silchar Sadar Police Station to investigate the matter and find the answers for us.”
Officer in-charge of Silchar Sadar Police Station along with the Magistrate rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body. The Police officials refused to make a comment on the case at this stage as they are waiting for the postmortem report.
