Students in Cachar submitted a memorandum to DC demanding restrictions during Christmas

A group of students went to the deputy commissioner’s office today and submitted a memorandum demanding the implementation of certain restrictions during Christmas.

“We have seen the district administration for the greater good of general public rolled out a set of guidelines which were made mandatory during Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Chatt Puja. We submitted the memorandum urging the administration to roll out a set of guidelines soon,” said Subhasish Choudhury who was among the students who submitted the memorandum.

He informed that students from the National Institute of Technology, NC Paul Memorial College, GC College, Cachar College, and other institutions jointly submitted the memorandum.

It stated, “In context to the present prevailing situation, we, the student community feel the strong need for a set of regulations and restrictions to avoid the COVID-19 spread in the town during Christmas. Ma’am (addressing Keerthi Jalli, DC Cachar) as we all know, the maximum of the youths of the town gather around the Oriental Church and the Holy Cross Church during the Christmas evening, which could transform into a hotspot zone for COVID-19 spread.”

The memorandum added, “Ma’am scientists all across the world are warning of serious consequences of COVID-19 during this winter. Also, the normal fever that comes with the season change, makes the people more vulnerable and the immune system weaker against the virus like COVID-19, which increases the tensions manifold.”

The memorandum concludes, “Moreover, we the students are attending schools, colleges now. A bit of spread of COVID-19 in the Christmas crowd shall transport the virus to many homes unintentionally. As we have seen the strong resolution of our District Administration during the Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Chhath Puja, where the public requested but the administration maintained its strong set of restrictions, at least on the official papers, we expect the same seriousness to be carried out regarding the human lives during the Christmas celebrations.”

The students said they have decided submit the memorandum as they feel restrictions are essential to contain the further spread of Coronavirus in Silchar.
