NRC: Claim/objections process starts today; here are the rules and regulations

The process for submitting claims and demand for objection on the NRC has started from today. It will go on till the two months i.e till 26th November. Applicants who submitted the NRC application till 31st August 2015 and received the ARN number, can only submit this claim. The applicant should submit their claims and demands in the same center where they originally applied from.

The applicant will not be allowed to change legacy name from the original NRC application. To explain this further, if someone used wrong legacy data in the original application and it was detected during the family tree examination, they cannot submit the legacy data as documents anymore. They will need to submit a new document out of the prescribed for submission of the claim.

It is to be remembered that the documents provided should be before or till March 24, 1971, twelve o’clock. The documents eligible for claims include:

1. Land documents like Registered Sale Deed, Records of land rights up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
2. Permanent Residential Certificate issued from outside the State up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
3. Passport issued by the Government of India up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
4. Life Insurance Corporation of India Insurance Policy (LICI) of relevant period up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
5. Any license/certificate issued by any Government authority of relevant period i.e. up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
6. Document showing service/employment under Government/Public Sector undertaking up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
7. Bank/Post Office Accounts of relevant period i.e. up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
8. Birth Certificates issued by the competent authority up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
9. Educational certificate issued by Board/Universities up to 24th March 1971 (midnight)
10. Records/processes pertaining to court up to 24th March 1971 (midnight) provided they are part of a processing in a Judicial or Revenue Court.

According to the Supreme Court directive, the five documents that will not be accepted for the time being are:

1. NRC, 1951
2. Voter list published till midnight on March 24, 1971
3. Citizenship Certificate
4. Refugee Certificates
5. Ration Card

Claims will be accepted by D-voter or a person declared foreigner, or whose case is pending in a foreign or foreign tribunal. In this case, different applications form will be used.

The claimants will not have to submit their family tree again. The claims or objection form can be found in NSK. The form also can be downloaded from the NRC site nrcassam.nic.in. Xerox of the blank form can be used.
