Sufficient availability of drinking water, CAB, infrastructure- Rajdeep Roy shares his priorities as MP

On May 26, 2019, member of parliament from Silchar, doctor Rajdeep Roy posted on Social media, “My 1st meeting at the historic central hall of the parliament where we met to elect Shri Narendra Modiji as the leader of the BJP parliamentary party and NDA in this 17th Lok Sabha.”

His post added, “A red letter day in my life ! I thank the people of my constituency for giving me the chance to represent you all. I promise not to let you down. Sheer energy and positive vibes!”

Roy defeated incumbent Congress MP – Sushmita Dev by a huge margin of 81,596 votes. He received a historic 52.59 % of the votes cast in the constituency. In an exclusive interaction with senior journalist Biswakalyan (Tilak) Purkayastha, the newly elected MP shared his experience of attending the oath taking ceremony held yesterday.

Roy said, “About 8000 invitees attended the oath taking ceremony yesterday. In the history of India such a huge gathering was never witnessed in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan.”

Roy said there is no time to waste thinking about personal milestones and his immediate focus is to start working for the development of Silchar and Barak Valley. “After five years we have a BJP member of parliament from Silchar. Though we had an NDA government at the Centre we could not take the development work forward to the extent we wanted as the member of parliament was from a different political party. Yes, broad gauge started, yes, the condition of the roads improved in the last five years but development is a sustained process and the next five years will be crucial,” Roy said.

Speaking about the areas he would like to start working on immediately, Roy shared, “Developing the infrastructure is one of my primary targets. But, my first priority is to ensure sufficient availability of drinking water in all the areas of Barak Valley. I have already met the chief minister and discussed this issue and I am hopeful that we will manage to work out a solution very soon.”

Barak Valley people who voted BJP candidates as member of parliament in both the constituencies (Silchar and Karimganj) will be expecting the party to move on the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. “We are 100 per cent sincere about the implementation of the Citizen Amendment Bill 2016. I will meet the new Home Minister, Amit Shah ji, and speak to him about it. He is already aware of the situation and Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 is one of the party’s poll promises,” Roy asserted.

On May 27, 2019, Roy met the former Minister of Home Affairs and discussed the bill. “When I met him I did not know that his portfolio will get changed. I would like to mention that as the Home Minister what Rajnath Singh ji did for the region is beyond expectations,” Roy concluded.
