Sujit Das Choudhury removed as Secretary of New Silchar Mandal BJP
In a new development, Sujit Das Choudhury, the President of Kaibarta Samaj Unnoyon Parishad, has been discharged from his duties as the Secretary of the New Silchar Mandal Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The decision to relieve Das Choudhury from his post was made during an important meeting held at Maa Durga Bibaho Bhaban, Sonai Road on July 2, 2023.
During the meeting, which was attended by various party workers, office bearers, former Ward Commissioners, and members of the State and District Committees affiliated with the Mandal, the press statement made by Sujit Das Choudhury on June 30, 2023, was extensively discussed. As a result of these discussions, it was unanimously decided to remove him from his position as the Secretary of the New Silchar Mandal Committee of the BJP.
The press conference held by Das Choudhury on June 30 came a day after a violent clash between two communities on Panchayat Road. He demanded monetary compensation for the victims, the apprehension of the perpetrators, and the suppression of individuals spreading inflammatory content on social media. Das Choudhury being the President of Kaibarta Samaj Unnoyon Parishad, raised concerns regarding the partiality of Silchar MLA. He accused the MLA of providing financial aid exclusively to one community and of instigating communal tensions. Furthermore, Das Choudhury alleged that the Silchar MLA had received a Scorpio car from Muslims and that a Muslim woman handled his office files. He also linked the rape threats received by the mothers and sisters of the Kaibarta community to the Silchar MLA’s purported attempts to appease the other community.
In light of the recent events and the statements made by Sujit Das Choudhury, President Dulal Das and two other General Secretaries of the BJP New Silchar Mandal collectively signed a letter addressed to Das Choudhury, formally discharging him from his responsibilities as the Secretary of the New Silchar Mandal Committee.
Expressing his reaction to the incident, Sujit Das Choudhury said, “If I am discharged for trying to protect the mothers and sisters of my Kaibarta and Hindu community then it doesn’t matter to me. I will bring this incident to the notice of Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bhabesh Kalita soon.”
