Super Division: Defending Champions, United Club crumbles like house of cards facing Dibakar Johori's express bowling

Narayan Paul Memorial Super Division League Come Knockout Cricket tournament organised by Silchar DSA started today. Defending champions United Club lost to Town Club in the first match of the tournament held at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium. Right-arm pacer Dibakar Johori played a key role in their victory. His partner Shantanu Dhar supported him equally from the other. Town Club picked up an easy six-wickets victory because of the duo.

United Club batted first today. They were bowled out for 62 runs in just 13 overs because of the outstanding spells by Dibakar and Shantanu. The two openers Prosenjit Sarkar (0) and Sukanta Dey (9) went back to the pavilion in the beginning. However, United suffered the biggest blow after the wicket of Raju Das, the best batsman of last season. Raju made only one run.

Experienced player Mosharab Hossain Lashkar got off to a great start but flickered later on. He got out after putting 19 runs on the board. United’s two inter-district players Fazlur Rahman and Pradeep Sarkar failed to score a decent total. Bishal Rudrapaul made 10 runs as the defending champions crumbled like a house of cards.

Star performed of the day, Dibakar Johori took seven wickets. His bowling spell was 7-0-36-7. His new bowling partner Shantanu took 3 wickets.

Chasing a low total, the Town Club started with an average beginning. They lost 3 wickets for just 16 runs on the board. However, opener Shubham Mondal played an unbeaten 43 run innings that lead the team to victory. Town Club achieved victory after losing four wickets in 15.2 overs. Despite many expectations, Ranji star Abhishek Thakuri failed to meet his expectations. Pradeep Sarkar took 3 wickets and was the only positive for the defending champions.

Club Oasis will play against India Club tomorrow.
