Superstar Manoj Tiwari sings Bhojpuri songs while campaigning for Kaushik Rai in Lakhipur

The contest for the upcoming Assam Vidhan Sabha election in Cachar is going to be a never-seen-before. In this multi-faceted battle, BJP has fielded Kaushik Rai as its candidate for the Lakhipur LAC. And to ramp up the election campaign, BJP politician and MP from the North-east Delhi constituency, Manoj Tiwari visited Lakhipur for the first time to campaign for Kaushik Rai. The Superstar in Indian Cinema especially Bhojpuri came in a private helicopter that brought him directly to the ground where the party gathering was organised.

In a charged-up atmosphere of BJP supporters and saffron karyakartas chanting ‘Jay Shree Ram’, Manoj Tiwari was welcomed with a garland of flowers. After the warm welcome, the BJP MP was felicitated on stage where he himself asked Kaushik Rai to request him to sing a song. Being a singer himself, Manoj Tiwari then went on to sing a Bhojpuri song in front of the huge crowd gathered, in an effort to woo the Hindi-belt in Lakhipur. In between, he also mentioned that it’s always nice to feel connected to one’s own ‘culture’.

The former President of Delhi State BJP, Manoj Tiwari, started his political career as a Samajwadi Party candidate. He contested in the 2009 Lok Sabha election from the Gorakhpur constituency and eventually lost to BJP’s Yogi Adityanath. He then again contested in the 2014 general elections, this time on a BJP’s ticket, and won.

When asked about the grand alliance of his opposition, he said, “The people know how the AIUDF is destroying the culture of Assam. And by allying with such a party, the Congress has put a nail on their own toe. Several workers have left Congress to join BJP over their frustration with this grand alliance.”

It is worth mentioning that Manoj Tiwari also criticised Rajdeep Goala, the former MLA of Lakhipur, who now happens to be his party comrade. Rajdeep Goala left Congress to join BJP last year amidst huge controversy and even rumour of him being the possible BJP candidate from Lakhipur. But all such assumptions were put to rest when BJP decided to provide the ticket to BJP Cachar District President Kaushik Rai by snubbing Rajdeep Goala.

Throughout his speech, Manoj Tiwari sounded optimistic that Kaushik Rai in Lakhipur would eventually come out victorious in this grand battle of assembly election.
