Sushmita Dev files nomination, says BJP fooled masses for five years
Mahila Congress president and Silchar MP Sushmita Dev, on Monday, filed her nomination at Cachar deputy commissioner’s office in Silchar in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Dev has been renominated by the Congress in Silchar and is contesting for the second time in Lok Sabha polls.
A rally was taken out from Indira Bhavan by Congress workers around 11:30am. The rally, which went through localitites including Park Road, Club Road and finally assembled in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, witnessed a huge number of Congress leaders including Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala, former Borkhola MLA Rumi Nath and district Congress president Pradip Dey among others.
Speaking to Barak Bulletin after filing her nomination, Sushmita said she is confident that the common masses will shower their love and support and help her pass the election-test with flying colours. “I am optimistic but I always say no election is easy. And I have told my supporters and workers that it is a big battle. And, we will fight hard,” she said.
On being asked why there was no prominent leader from the Congress present with her (on the day of filing her nomination, in context with Rajdeep Roy, who filed his nomination from the BJP and with whom a number of heavyweight leaders were present) and if the presence of the heavyweight BJP leaders is going to make any impact, she said the masses and the party workers are with her and the BJP will get a strong reply from the people for not fulfilling their promises, she said.

“Lots of heavyweights can come. It is going to make no difference because they have fooled the people for five years,” she said.
Asked about Assam minister Pijush Hazarika’s comment on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that the Congress is having different stands in Brahmaputra and Barak valleys over the contentious bill, Sushmita said the stands of the BJP and AGP too are different over the issue. “Hazarika should do some homework before opening his mouth,” she said.
