Sushmita Dev goes on a 10-hour hunger strike against delimitation wearing black cloth
Protests are happening across the state against delimitation of constituencies. In Barak Valley also, many organisations and people are protesting against delimitation. There is anger against the proposal to abolish two assembly constituencies of Barak Valley.
This time Rajya Sabha MP and TMC leader Sushmita Dev has sat on a hunger strike against the delimitation of constituencies. From the 9 am in the morning, Sushmita Dev and workers of Cachar Trinamool Congress sat on a hunger strike at Narshingtola in Silchar wearing black clothes. Dev alleged that Barak Valley has been deprived in the newly published delimitation draft.
She criticised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma for his comments on delimitation and raised questions on the transparency of the Election Commission. She also said that if delimitation had been done in 2026 based on the lastest census then the constituencies in the state would have increased.
However, it appears that the delimitation is being done now instead of 2026 and two constituencies of Barak have been mysteriously abolished. Therefore, the Cachar District Trinamool Congress is on hunger strike today against the delimitation of constituencies.
