Sushmita Dev, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Badaruddin Azmal among lakhs at Darul-Ulum Madrassa

Vehicles after vehicles were heading towards Banskandi today morning with hundreds of thousands of followers who wanted to participate celebrations of  Darul Uloom Emi Jalsha and Dastarbandi function. In one of the biggest such festival in the entire country, the believers in Islam gathered from all across the nation at the Darul Uloom Madrasa, often recognised as the oldest Madrasa in the Northeast.

The entire Banskandi area, located in Cachar district, came to a standstill when Islamic Scholar from Darul Uloom Deoband, Saharanpur UP – Maulana Hussain Ahmed Haridwari addressed the followers. A sea of white listened to him with devotion.

Apart from the Islamic Scholar, there were many other dignitaries who attended the function at Banskandi. The stellar list included: Congress candidate from Silchar and MP Sushmita Dev, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, AIUDF Supremo, Badaruddin Azmal and many more. The political spokesperson used the occasion to communicate the poll promises of their respective parties.

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha spoke to our correspondent at the sidelines of the event and said according to his calculation, Congress will win in both the seats of Cachar district with a significant margin. He also added that Rahul Gandhi will become the next Prime Minister of India and Congress-led UPA, according to his estimates, will secure 315 to 330 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming general elections.

AIUDF MLA from Hailakandi, Anwar Hussain however, was of the opinion that AIUDF will win in all three seats it is contesting from. Karimganj happens to be an interesting seat as the district Congress suggested that party high command stitch an alliance and support the incumbent MP Radheshyam Biswas. That certainly did not happen as Congress decided to field debutant Swarup Das, “Since the ticket has been given to Swarup Das, there is no question of backdoor alliance and all. The candidate has party’s support and we will win the seat,” said, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha.

Overall it was sort of a fair in Banskandi today, an ecstatic celebration of devotion. More than hundred students have been awarded their degrees today.
