Sushmita Dev leaves for Hathras from Delhi: "Got detained, beaten by UP Police, but today, we won't stop"

National President of Mahila Congres and former member of Parliament, Sushmita Dev along with Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders have left for Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Through it is just a 200-kilometer journey from the national capital, the political analysts opined that for Congress, it a journey towards redemption.

The images of a pyre said to be of the 19-year-old rape victim is still fresh in everyone’s mind. The Yogi Adityanath government is under immense criticism, especially because of the way, UP Police handled the cremation. The investigative agencies argued on the basis of forensic reports that the 19-year-old was not gang-raped, that argument got very few takers. Instead, protests started unfolding.

The Police, which cremated the body without the consent of the family members, have blocked journalists from talking to the press. Forming human chains, the officials tore apart clothes of protestors, lathi-charged on elected MPs including the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, asserts Sushmita Dev.

“Two days back, when we wanted to meet the parents of the victim, we got detained, beaten by UP Police but today we won’t stop,” said Sushmita Dev before leaving for Hathras from Delhi.

She added, “If there is 144 then we will adhere to the restrictions of 144 and meet the victims but we won’t return without meeting them.”

Meanwhile, ANI reported, “TMC delegation being roughed up by Uttar Pradesh Police at #Hathras border. The delegation, including Derek O’Brien, was on the way to meet the family of the victim of the Hathras incident.”
