Suspected thief accuses Public of Moral Policing in Karimganj; "They stubbed heated iron rod," he says

Locals of the Santar Bazar area in Karimganj district detained a boy who is alleged to be a thief. The locals accused that they have found sac of betel nuts among other things from the suspected thief. They have also said that there were ATM cards in his possession and an NEFT slip signed by a customer for transaction.

Identified as Nasir Uddin, son of Seragi Ahmed is a resident of Ratabari. After he was detained by the public of the area, they started manhandling him taking law on their own hands. Uddin was brutally assaulted and there are marks of wounds throughout his body.

A local resident spoke with the press and said that “Uddin was caught red-handed by the general public with robbed items in possession.” The Santar Bazar local who was one of them who detained Uddin, added, “Santar Bazar is a public place and the irked general public of the area, who have been a sufferer of robbery for long must have slapped and punched the thief. However, we controlled the situation and handed the thief over to the Police for action as per law.”

The accused, on the other hand, has alleged that a hot iron rod was stubbed on his body time and again. “I was framed to be a thief. But even if I am a thief, they could have handed me over to the Police. Instead, they heated an iron rod and then started assaulting me further. I have burnt wounds all through my back,” said Nassir Uddin as he posed with his bare body.

Top officials in Karimganj have already got the reports and if sources are to be believed, the SP has himself called the investigating officer and asked for a report on the issue. The Police officials have escorted Uddin to the local hospital for routine medical check up. The officials are aslo looking into the allegations of moral policing pressed by the accused.
