Swachh Sundor Silchar fed sells first yield of Garbage to Gold project to MPs and MLAs
In a first of its kind, the pilot SLRM center started functioning last month in the presence of Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy and many MLAs.
After one month of functioning, the first and most valuable product from garbage to gold project- egg shell powder made from waste egg shell was sold among the Legislators of Cachar on Wednesday, in a meeting held at the conference hall of DC Office, Cachar.
Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Legislators Dilip Kr Paul, Mihirkanti Shome, Kishor Nath, Amar Chand Jain and Rajdeep Gowala purchased the egg shell powder prepared by Swaccha Sundor Silchar women federation formed with volunteers working for solid-liquid resource management. This egg shell powder is very rich in calcium that can be used as fertiliser for the plants. It also helps reduce the pH level of soil and enhances the soil productivity.
In an innovative step by district administration to promote use of cloth bags in place of plastic bags and provide alternate livelihood to unemployed, cloth bags made by SHG women were gifted away to all the dignitaries who attended Bhumi Pujan for mini secretariat at Srikona.
On the same deputy commissioner Laya Madduri shared “Change should begin at home. From now onwards, we will be replacing bouquet and sweets with cotton bags as gifts and jute files and folders made by SHG instead of plastic folders. We are getting tremendous response from people of Silchar in our endeavor to reduce single-use plastic.”
