Teacher Babli Paul and daily wager Qadir Hussain dead due to electrocution in Cachar
In a tragic turn of affairs, 46-year-old teacher of Nabin Chandra College, Babli Paul and a daily wager working at their residence have succumbed. Wife of GC College professor, Bidyut Kanti Paul, Babli Paul was at her home when she met with an accident.
As per available information, Babli Paul was busy with household chores at her residence in Kabuganj, Sonai. She went to switch off the water pump after the tank started overflowing. As she touched the switchboard, Paul got electrocuted. Hearing people scream, daily wager, Qadir Hussain who was at work rushed to save Babli Paul. The Nandigram part II resident Qadir Hussain and Babli Paul both succumbed on the spot.
“We urge the electricity department to look into the matter. At the same time, plead to the district administration for compensation of Qadir Hussain as he was a daily wager at work,” said a neighbour.
“She was done filling the tank and went to the pond to switch off the water pump. We feel she got drenched on her way to the pond and that is why when she tried to open the grill she got electrocuted,” added the neighbour.
He said Qadir ran to the pond after he heard Babli Paul’s children screaming on top of their voice. “He also got electrocuted after touching the grill,” informed the neighbour.
The incident took place at around 2:00 PM, Babli Paul left behind two daughters and her husband. The untimely demise of the teacher has shocked the fraternity.
