Tension At Indo-Bangladesh Border In Katigorah over Trespass; Alleged Attack on Indian Farmers
An incident of Bangladeshi intrusion within the Indian territory has been reported from Cachar’s Katigorah area. Tension escalated along the Indo-Bangladesh international border in Harinagar under Katigorah after Bangladeshi miscreants allegedly entered Indian territory and attacked local farmers on Sunday (April 5).
According to reports, the incident occurred when Indian farmers crossed the Surma River to cultivate their land in Indian territory. A group of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly attacked them using sticks and sharp weapons, leaving at least three Indian citizens injured.
The injured farmers reportedly managed to escape by swimming across the Surma River to save their lives. The incident triggered panic and outrage in the area, with hundreds of residents from Harinagar village storming out in protest, leading to a tense situation along the border.

It is pertinent to mention that India has around 225 hectares of land across the Surma River and has been cultivating it for years. However, since the recent elections in Bangladesh, they have allegedly been facing obstruction from across the border.
Expressing anger over the incident, one local said, “We need proper judgment and demarcation for this; we won’t give an inch of land to them. It’s our land, and we have the rights. We ask the BSF to open the (border) gates, and we shall retaliate; we are ready to die if necessary. A small country like Bangladesh can’t attack us, and will not accept the attack on our land. They want to occupy our land.”
The situation remains tense in the border area following the incident.
