Terrible landslide on Silchar-Aizawl National Highway leaves hundreds of vehicles stranded
In a devastating incident that occurred yesterday night at around 10 pm, a massive landslide struck the Silchar-Aizawl National Highway No. 306 at Rentekon, located in Mizoram’s Kolasib district. As a result, the vital highway has been completely closed, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
The Public Works Department (PWD) of Mizoram is actively monitoring the situation and has initiated efforts to clear the debris from the road to normalise traffic. Heavy machinery, including excavators, have been deployed to expedite the clearance process.
The closure of the highway has caused a major disruption to the transportation of goods in the region. Lorries carrying essential supplies to various destinations in Mizoram have come to a standstill, while vehicles returning after unloading their goods are also caught in the traffic snarl-up. Reports indicate that a queue of stranded vehicles, stretching over 10 kilometers, has formed on both sides of the road, causing immense hardship to passengers, lorry drivers, and their assistants.
The Mizoram PWD has not yet provided a confirmed timeline for when the road will be reopened for traffic. However, authorities are working tirelessly to restore access as soon as possible and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the landslide.
