An explosion rattled Kashipur in Cachar, drawing alarmed locals who rushed to the scene after hearing the loud blast. While fear gripped the area as people speculated about the cause, it was soon revealed to be an accidental blast triggered by a rechargeable battery that exploded during testing.

A terrifying explosion occurred in Kashipur, Cachar, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The incident has stirred panic across the area, with locals rushing to the scene to assess the situation. According to reports, the explosion took place at the residence of a man named Rabindra Debnath, where a rechargeable battery burst during testing.

The injured, identified as Bibekananda Debnath and Salim Barbhuiya, were immediately rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital by the police for medical treatment. SP Numal Mahatta, who visited the site shortly after receiving the report, confirmed that the explosion was caused by a rechargeable battery, commonly used in two-wheelers and rechargable fans. He stated that the battery was being tested to check its condition when it suddenly exploded, generating a loud noise that reverberated throughout the area.

Addressing Media, SP Numal Mahatta stated “Today at about 8:30 PM, we received information about an explosion at Kashipur Part-II village, in the lawn of Rabindra Debnath’s residence, the blast injured his 18 year old son, Bibekananda Debnath, and 65 year old Salim Uddin Laskar. Police rushed to the scene, and the injured were promptly sent to SMCH for treatment.”

He further added “Preliminary enquiry reveals that Rabindra Debnath, a marginal scrap dealer, uses his old house to store scrap materials, his sons were experimenting with a 6-volt battery when it suddenly exploded. No signs of any explosive materials have been found at the scene, though some items, including soil, were collected for examination.”

Bibekananda Debnath, while addressing the media, recalled the incident, saying he had just returned from the bathroom when the explosion occurred. He described the sound as similar to a bomb blast, adding that the intensity of the noise shook the entire neighbourhood.

SP Mahatta assured that an investigation is underway, although preliminary findings suggest that no major explosives such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were involved. He emphasised that it was an accidental explosion and confirmed that neither of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
