Textures of Kamakhya Temple, Jesus' Cross; New building of Ramakrishna Mission to resemble "Sarva Dharma Samanvaya"
Silchar Ramakrishna Mission’s temple is all set to get a makeover. The new temple will be inaugurated in 2024. Tomorrow, idols of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda will be shifted to the dispensary building. A temporary temple has been built to accommodate the idols and continue the daily worship.
“On the auspicious occasion of Jagadhatri Puja, the idols will be ceremoniously shifted to the new building. On the same day (November 12) at 8:00 am, we will formally lay the foundation stone (Ishaan) of the new temple,” informed Swami Ganadhisananda, secretary of Silchar Ramakrishna Mission.
Ramakrishna Mission’s Silchar centre was started in 2024, and it was accepted as a branch in 1938. “To mark the 100th anniversary and since the current temple building is beyond renovation, we had submitted a proposal to construct a new temple building. The proposal has been accepted by Belur Math and if God’s grace remains on us, by 2024, we will have a new temple,” added Swami Ganadhisananda.
Rs 5,69,19,000 is the estimated cost of the project. Workers from West Bengal, Bihar will work on this temple along with support from local hands.
“The pattern on the walls of the temple will resemble the texture of Kamakhya Temple. There are other aspects of the Assamese culture that will reflect on the construction. Then on the front side of the temple, there is a resemblance of Christ’s Cross. The attempt is to portray Sarva Dharma Samanvaya,” asserted Swami Ganadishananda.
According to him, a temple with such architecture will be a unique proposition. “I don’t think there is a temple of this sort in any of the seven states in Northeast,” he concluded.
