The dancing welcome that left people awestruck in Silchar airport: Mamiya Mukherjee and Raj Majumdar's "Piya Ghar Aaya" Yarana

There is a saying, “The truth is… Airports have seen more sincere hugs than wedding halls and hospitals have heard more prayers than churches.” The premise of this widely popular quote is honesty. Silchar Airport witnessed one such honest moment. You don’t expect the paps to lineup outside the Silchar airport as there is hardly any celebrity movement unlike in Mumbai or Delhi. However, there are moments that are worth cherishing as memories. January 24 witnessed one such moment, and we may not have the paps, but there were a few smartphones recording helping the footage to do rounds on social media.

Raj Mazumdar, a resident of Silchar’s Ashram Road currently staying in the suburbs of Mumbai, had arrived in Silchar. As he pushed his trolley out and walked towards the parking, he had a couple of his family members holding huge placards to welcome him. “Welcome Dulhe Raja” the cards read. While that was enough to make him smile, what followed next, left him grinning.

His to-be wife, Mamiya Mukherjee a resident of Silchar’s Link Road, who also stays in Mumbai for professional purposes, was ready with the loudspeaker. As he walked closer, to pay a tribute to their ‘Yarana’, Mamiya Mukherjee started dancing on “Mere Piya Ghar Aaya, Oh Ramji.” Her steps matched that of Madhuri Dixit and she almost had the same costume. She pulled off the act right in the middle of the Car Parking, which like other days was very crowded. The cab drivers and other fellow passengers all had a smile looking at them as they hugged each other. The traditional wedding crown and the garland followed to give it all a great context.

“We are getting married on February 7. I came home earlier, he came today as he had work there. So I thought I had to make it a little special,” that’s how it all started, says Mamiya Mukherjee. “I did not plan anything until last night, where I convinced my cousins to come and the welcome sign was handwritten by us in the morning on the way!”

Mamiya Mukherjee and Raj Majumdar met each other in Silchar 15 years back when they were both shooting for a couple of shows that aired on NE TV. “Then we moved to Mumbai for higher studies. Now he is a full-time fashion photographer and I run a Digital Marketing Agency. Just for people who can identify us, we owned Eclipse, the hookah lounge that once existed in Silchar,” informs Mamiya Mukherjee.

They are set to tie the knot on February 7, giving a new dimension to their 15-years of togetherness. From co-actors to business partners and now life partners, their ‘Yarana’ deserves a paparazzi moment.
