"The sweetness of Assam has reached Dubai", Minister Piyush Goyal shares image of Cachar's pineapples
The Lakhipur area of Cachar has been famous worldwide for its sweet pineapples. The pineapples are being transported abroad since a few years. And this year,it has reached the homeland of the Sheikhs– Dubai.
The Central Minister for Crafts and Trade, Piyush Goyal is eagerly excited with this. With a picture, the Minister tweets, ‘The sweetness of Assam has reached Dubai. There will now be real profits of the Pineapple farmers of the District’.
To mention, a total of 1500 hectares of land is used every year in the areas of Lakhipur, Binnakandi and Rajbajar for the production of almost 40 thousand metric tons of pineapples. But comparatively, the farmers do not get the worthy payment for themselves, pushing them more below from the poverty line. The abroad trip of the pineapples can be a turning point in the lives of these farmers, as seemingly evident from the aforesaid tweet.

“We were getting this delicious fruit cultivated in our homeland at a reasonable price. But now I don’t think it’ll be possible anymore. Anyways, if the pineapples become world famous and the fortune favours the farmers , then its good,” says a housewife.
In 2019, from Hmarkhawlien of Lakhipur, a ship carrying almost 10,000 pineapples had stepped into Dubai from Mumbai. The then DC Laya Madduri was present at the scene.
