There can be a 'Village Rockstar ' in this region too; Samrat Chakraborty in Karimganj film festival

The 27th annual Karimganj Film Festival organised by the Ritwiz Cine Art Society started at the District Library Auditorium in Karimganj on Wednesday.

Golden Palm winning film-maker Samrat Chakraborty was present as the chief guest at the inaugural event.

Speaking at the programme, Chakraborty said he felt honoured to be invited in the “land of the language martyrs”. He said that he was delighted to see how people of the region are so passionate about cinema.

“Film festivals like these encourage the art of cinema. Karimganj has every potential of producing Oscar-nominated movies like ‘Village Rockstars’ in the days to come”, Chakraborty quipped.

The inaugural film which was played at the event was a Samrat Chakraborty directorial short-film named ‘Bishad Bindu’. The movie was premiered at the recently concluded Kolkata International Film Festival. The movie was also shown at the Nepal International Film Festival. The movie had received immense appreciation from the audience. Following this, a series of short films produced by several other budding film-makers hailing from Barak Valley were also shown at the event.

Some of these were ‘Garodkhana’, ‘Paper Mashi’ and ‘Shonar Bangla’ produced by Barak Breeze Films – a regional film production house.

Other including ‘Debi Utsaber Arale’ produced by Montage Cine Club, ‘Batik’ produced by Udumbum of Kailashahar and another short film named ‘Bideshi’ produced by Ritwiz Cine Art Society’s president Soumitra Adhikari were also shown.

Saikat Das, Saurav Bhattacharjee, Amin Laskar and Arijit Deb of Barak Breeze Films along with Moitrayan Choudhury, Rajshekhar Paul and Shubrojit Chakraborty of Montage Cine Club along with Ripol Mahanta of Fourth Dimension were felicitated at the inaugural ceremony of the film fest.

A total of 22 regional, national and international films will be shown in a period of one week of the festival. The event will reach its closure on January 9.
