Three dead after motorcycles collide head-on in Badarpur; Police resorts to lathicharge
Young bikers accelerated as the roads were empty and lost controls to collide head-on. One died on the spot and another was declared dead at Srigouri Hospital. The accident occurred at around 11:00 pm on Sunday night at Badarpur main road.
AS 10 D 4912 motorcycle collided with AS 10 E 7730 and the locals say both the motorcycles with pillion were riding at a high speed. 25-year-old Bishal Nath died on the spot. 24-year-old Dipanjan Ghosh was rushed to the local hospital and was declared dead. Biprojit Ghosh also got critically injured and was rushed to Karimganj Civil Hospital. Later, he was referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The locals got irked as they saw young boys lying dead. Police officials reached the spot to dismantle the gathering but, according to sources, got attacked by the mob. The Police had to resort to lathicharge in order to bring the situation under control. One Police official got injured while several protesters also incurred injuries after Police imposed force.
OC Badarpur, Dipak Kumar Saikia rushed to the spot with a bigger team. The locals questioned Police’s sensibilities as they resorted to lathicharge especially when the emotions were riding high. On the other hand, the Police officials maintained that they were trying to maintain law and order.
As many as six individuals have been detained for obstructing Police officials on duty.
