Thunderstorm Alert: Barak Valley May See Another Lightning Storm Tonight

With the withdrawal of winter, we have entered the realm of the monsoon, and in this season, Assam has always faced a multitude of issues. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, tonight, the people of Barak Valley might face another thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

On Wednesday, April 3, around 9 pm, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati shared information that tonight parts of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Tinsukia, Charaideo, and Sibsagar districts may face thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph and spells of light to moderate rain.

The people of these said districts are advised to stay prepared and be safe. This may also lead to electricity issues throughout the regions, affecting rural areas more than others. Issues with electricity are already being faced by many areas, and this may exacerbate them further. In such a time, it is better to keep all necessary electronics charged up in case of emergencies.

Arup Paul, AGM, commented on the electricity issue that the region may face due to the storm, stating that before the storm happens, it is hard to say how serious the issue might be. He mentioned that there have been multiple instances where issues could be resolved within no time even after a big storm; however, sometimes, after slight spells, serious electricity issues arise. For now, it is hard to speculate on the magnitude of the situation.

Meanwhile, Kalain Electrical Subdivision had informed about a power failure at the 132 KV Panchgram GSS since 18:17 hrs, attributed to the bursting of lightning arresters of the station service transformer. However, they assured that the power would be restored using either the spare station service transformer or the DG set.

In summary, tonight parts of several districts in Assam are at risk of thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty winds and rain. Residents are advised to stay prepared and ensure their safety, especially in rural areas where electricity issues may worsen. Keeping essential electronics charged is recommended in case of emergencies.
