
Silchar-Guwahati Express upgraded under Utkrist Project
The Indian railway from the past couple of months has been trying to upgrade its railway stations and train coaches under various projects. Some of these initiatives include the upgradation of coaches in identified rakes of existing trains under project Swarn & Project Utkrist.
Northeast Frontier Railway has planned to upgrade 32 rakes mainly comprising mail and express trains under Utkrist Project. This upgrade includes giving a noticeable facelift of both the interior and exterior of the entire train rake.
What comes as good news for people of Barak Valley is that train number 15611/2 Silchar Guwahati Express has been upgraded under Utkrist project and the train started its maiden journey from yesterday. The train was beautifully decorated with flowers and was flagged off in presence of high railway officials.
Salient features of this upgraded train are the vinyl wrapping of doorway and gangway, fire extinguishers, big size mirrors, dustbins, LED panel lighting, night glow stickers, toilets with soap containers, auto janitor, exhaust fans, mug holder etc. Sources said us NFR is also mulling to increase the frequency of this train from tri-weekly to daily.
Meanwhile, Indian Railways is also replacing ICF design coaches with new LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches and Silchar Trivandrum Express has been put in the list.
