Trouble broke out between shopkeepers and Local Durga Puja organisers in Karimganj, Santar Bazaar arena. Local shopkeepers filed complaints against two individuals of Pancha Pradip Club at Karimganj Sadar Police station. Local shopkeepers alleged that Pancha Pradip club members forcefully collect money in the name of Durga Puja Chanda; abusing and threatening them to lock up their shops if they didn’t pay the demanded amount Chanda.

In response, the local bazaar committee filed complaints against Raju Singh, who also happens to be a local ruling party leader and one teacher Sajal Das. Karimganj Police accepted their complaint and assured them of sort out the discord.

The Officer In-charge of Karimganj Police Station, Bijit Darda told Barak Bulletin that things are under control now, police have registered FIR against two individuals, and things will be sorted out.

According to the traders of Santar Bazar, Pancha Pradip Club has been organising Durga Puja for the last 20-25 years, and they also contribute to the club every year, but due to the COVID pandemic and lockdown, the financial condition is not going good, and they have huge credit to meet.

 

 

According to the local shopkeepers, organisers of the Pancha Pradip club, especially Raju Singh, Sajal Das, and their acolytes are running extortion in the name of Chanda collection. They also alleged that Raju Singh and Sajal Das abused and manhandled a few shopkeepers of Santar Bazar area after they refused to pay the demanded amount.
