Durga Puja: Here are the traffic and general guidelines issued by Cachar District Administration 

The wait is almost over as Durga Puja 2018 is knocking at the door. While the resident of Silchar are busy singing rain rain go to Spain, the Cachar district administration has come up with a few guidelines to reduce pain. The district administration after discussion with the members of Silchar Police Reserve Puja Committee took a few decisions in order to ease civic life during the Puja days. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, S Lakshmanan and senior police official S S Roy were also present in the meeting.

After the meeting, the district administration advised all Puja committees to install CC TV camera in the pandal. The Puja committees are also asked to deploy volunteers as custodians of peace and harmony. The pandals must have a separated entrance for men and women and entrances must be guarded by volunteers. The administration assured high-security arrangements during the four days of Durga Puja. Control rooms will be set up in various parts of the city.

To avoid traffic jams during the Puja days, the administration has also issued a few traffic guidelines. In the municipality areas, entry of Rickshaw, Thela, Auto-rickshaws, and all other vehicles will be restricted in some capacity. In fact for autos and rickshaws, temporary stands will be set up outside municipality areas. Other vehicles coming from Malugram or Trunk Road can drive to Rangirkhari through Club Road – Dak Bangla Point – Municipality Office – Dewanji Bazar and Premtala. And the vehicles entering the town from Rangirkhari will be allowed to reach Tarapur through, Premtala – Shillongpatty – DIG Office Point and Park Road. Or else the light motor vehicle drivers can drive towards Malugram or Sadarghat through Park Road – Club Road. They can also drive to Premtala through Park Road – Club Road – Dak Bungalow Point – Janiganj – Dewanji Bazar.
‘No Entry’ will be imposed for all kinds of vehicles in front of Public School. No vehicles, private or commercial will be allowed to ply on the road connecting Janiganj to Tulapatti or Ukilpatti. Vehicles from Circuit House can drive towards Malugram through Dak Bungalow Point – Janiganj. Light motor vehicles entering the town from Tarapur can ply to Janiganj, but they will have to take a turn from India Club Point towards Trunk Road and from there head towards Capital Point. Or else they can drive through Assam Rifles Road to Shillongpatty and then turn to Park Road and head towards Annapurna Point and reach Devdoot Cinema hall.
No vehicles can head towards Chengcoorie Road from Hospital Road as a total No Entry is imposed in that route by the traffic administration. Lochon Boiragi Road, the route that takes one to Mitali Sangha will be a ‘No Entry’ zone after 2:00 PM in the afternoon. The vehicles heading Silchar from Hailakandi and Karimganj can enter the city through National Highway Road and Chittaranjan Avenue.
Special parking arrangement has been done in ASTC flag station and DSA Bus Stand. The route from India Club to E&D Point has been declared as a ‘One Way’ for all four days during Durga Puja. From 9 o’clock in the morning, no vehicles will be allowed to drive to India Club point from E&D Point as it has been declared as a one way. Silchar Traffic Police has ordered that vehicles must have transparent windows and black-papering is strictly prohibited.
On the other hand, on the day of immersion (Dashami) October 19, 2018, from 12 noon onwards no vehicles can ply in Municipality areas. The trucks carrying the idols of Goddess Durga and her children will have to take a turn from Premtala towards Nazirpatty and then head to Dak Bungalow Point through Club Road to reach Bisharjan Ghat. After the immersion is over respective vehicles can exit through the road towards Municipality Office. The idol carrying trucks heading from Tarapur will have to drive through DIG Bungalow towards Shillongpatty and head to Premtala and then follow the same route to Bisharjan Ghat.
Fire brigade engines, ambulance, water tank carriers and vehicles of on duty judge and police officials will be exempted from the traffic restictions.
