Tragedy in Silchar: Unidentified Body Discovered Floating in Annapurna Ghat
In a chilling discovery, an unidentified body was found floating in the Barak River near Annapurna Ghat in Silchar on Friday afternoon. Locals spotted the body and promptly alerted authorities at the Tarapur Outpost. Acting swiftly, officers from the Tarapur Police Station arrived on the scene along with a magistrate, who helped retrieve the body from the river. The remains have been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police are working to uncover the identity of the deceased. At the time of reporting, no leads have emerged regarding who the individual might be. Authorities are waiting to uncover any information that may shed some light on the matter.
In a phone call with Barak Bulletin, Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta stated, “As of now, we are unsure of the identity of the victim.” He added that the body had been sent for a post-mortem, and the team is awaiting the report to understand the circumstances surrounding the case further.
SP Mahatta’s statement highlights the early stage of the investigation. The post-mortem report is expected to provide crucial insights, such as the cause of death, and possibly reveal any signs of foul play, helping authorities to determine the direction of the case.
