This incident happened yesterday at around 11 AM. Despite valiant efforts from both SDRF and community members, the initial search proved fruitless, shrouding the family members of Ritika in a cloud of despair as nightfall loomed. Today when the rescue operation was resumed, the SDRF team found the lifeless body of the girl near Jirighat Bazar, 3 km downstream of their home, on the bank of the river.

Raju Suklabadiya, the bereaved father spoke to our reporter and said, “Yesterday she wore her grandmother’s sandal and was playfully showing everyone. While her mother was in the kitchen, she was in the front yard. When her mother couldn’t hear her voice for some time, she became concerned. We frantically started searching everywhere. After some time we found one of the sandals she wore near the river and discovered her footprints. That got us worried and we informed the police who along with SDRF searched the waters”.

After the dead body of the girl was found, Jirighat Police rushed to the spot and sent the lifeless remains for postmortem at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The entire region remains gripped by a profound sense of sorrow and disbelief, as the community grapples with the incomprehensible tragedy that has befallen such a young soul.
