Tragic Road Trip Ends in Fatality: Silchar Resident Dies in Collision on Return Journey from Tawang

A road trip to Tawang, a picturesque destination nestled in the scenic terrains of Arunachal Pradesh, turned fatal for a group of friends, culminating in the untimely demise of 32-year-old Abul Kalam Choudhury. What began as an adventure-filled journey for four friends from Silchar ended in tragedy as Kalam’s motorcycle collided with a scooter near Mandu Restaurant on NH27 under the jurisdiction of Maibang Police Station in the Dima Hasao District.

According to reports from Maibang Police, the accident occurred at approximately 2:45 PM on the 16th of December, 2023. The collision between Kalam’s motorcycle and the scooter resulted in his tragic death at the scene of the accident.

Kalam, a resident of Kanakpur, Silchar, had set out on this expedition along with his companions, cherishing the open road and the scenic beauty that accompanied their journey. However, the return leg of their adventure turned into a nightmare as fate dealt them a devastating blow.

The mishap not only claimed Kalam’s life but also left two individuals on the scooter severely injured. Identified as Sorot Hasnu, 19 years old, and Babujit Bathari, 22 years old, both residents of Notun Bathari under Maibang District, they were rushed to medical care following the collision.

As the Maibang Police delve deeper into the circumstances leading to the accident, Kalam’s family, gripped by shock and grief, awaits the transfer of his mortal remains. The completion of post-mortem procedures and adherence to requisite protocols precedes the final rites, prolonging the anguish of his loved ones.

The distance between Silchar and Tawang spans approximately 500 kilometers, presenting a journey of diverse landscapes and varying terrains. Traversing through winding roads, lush greenery, and elevations that transition from plains to mountainous regions, the route offers breathtaking views but demands vigilance and caution.
