
Trashtag Challenge: DC's endeavour reveals poor condition of cleanliness in Hailakandi Road
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri led the trashtag challenge- awareness cum cleanliness drive at Rangirkhari and New Silchar areas on Sunday morning. She was accompanied with enthusiastic alumni members of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Polapool.
The team put specific emphasis in clearing the trash piled up near Barak Market and also adjacent to the State Bank of India New Silchar branch.
During the drive, the DC was seen with a broomstick, joining hands with the alumni members of JNV and cleaning the garbage. She even interacted with local shop owners at Barak Market and urged them to participate in the process of keeping the city clean. She categorically mentioned that dumping wastes into the drains is not allowed as per the Solid Waste Management Rule and urged the traders to cooperate with the NGOs who are engaged in collecting garbage from door-to-door. She also drew the attention of the people towards waste segregation at source.
Joining DC Laya Madduri in the awareness drive were Assistant Commissioner Smt Navanita Hazarika and other officials. Swacch Bharat Mission Urban also participated in the drive.
The district administration identified 20 vulnerable garbage locations in connection with the cleanliness drive in the town, which includes Park Road near Gandhibagh, Hospital Road in front of veterinary hospital, Ithkola Point near ithkola market, National Highway bridge near National Highway market, Mela Road opposite radio station, New market near fish market, Subash Nagar opposite Samshan, Opposite Indraprastha hotel, Sonai road point IOCL point, Shillong Patty DIG office, Ambikapatty point, Devdoot point, Central road opposite Vishal, Premtola point, India club point, Hailakandi road point Kanakpur, Rangirkhari point, Barak point, Janingang point, Ukilpatty point, Apdcl office pan patty.
Eight most vulnerable garbage locations were identified as Bhowal Point Near Tulapatty, Tarapur Flyover, Near Rangirkhari SbI, Gopalgang baramasjid galli point, Capital point malugram road, Fatak Bazar old lakhipur road near transformer, Hospital Road in front of PHE, and College Road Opposite Shani Mandir.
The district administration stressed on the segregation of dry and wet waste so that wet waste can be converted into fertilizer and dry waste which includes plastic can be sent for recycling and reuse. District administration has urged upon the people to join this initiative in order to make the city clean, beautiful and pollution free.
