The Trinamool Congress is staging a sit in protest infront of APDCL office located in Silchar today. They are protesting against the prepaid meter system recently started by APDCL. There are hundreds of people participating in the sit-in protest. The SDO of SDO has been gheraoed by protesters inside his office for a long time. Work at the office has been stalled for several hours.
The prepaid bill system by APDCL is causing anger across the state. Protests are going on in several places of Assam. The Trinamool Congress started protesting against APDCL from today morning. Hundreds of Trinamool Congress workers are protesting at the SDO office of APDCL located in Silchar’s Panpatty. The common public has also joined in the protest.
At first, the Trinamool Congress workers staged a sit in protest infront of the gate of APDCL office. After protesting for some time outside the office, the Trinamool Congress workers entered the office and started protesting inside. They have gheraoed SDO Dibyendu Das for more than an hour inside the office. The protesters chanted slogans inside the office against the state government’s decision to introduce prepaid meters.
The Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that the government is cleverly introducing the prepaid meter system to empty the pockets of the common people. The leaders believed that the common people will suffer the most from the prepaid meter system. They urged the government to stop this system at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters a member of Trinamool Congress said, “Today we members of Cachar Trinamool Congress came to the Panpatty office of APDCL for protesting against the scam in the name of prepaid bill ongoing in entire Assam. As we entered the office we saw that around 1000-1,500 people were in standing in the queue for 2-3 hours to pay the bill because they fear their electricity connection might be cut off for non-payment.”
He added, “We wanted to speak to the SDO but he was busy collecting bills in the office. We have sat in an agitation infront of the office demanding to put an end to the harrasment of common people in the name of prepaid meter. If the system is not reformed and the harassment is not stopped then Cachar Trinamool Congress will go for a larger agitation in Silchar.”
