
Truck rampage in Cachar: Death toll rises to 3, many still critical; Police yet to trace the driver
In a bizarre turn of affairs, an unloaded truck bearing registration number NL 01 AA 8717 ran over several vehicles and pedestrians. As reported earlier by Barak Bulletin, the truck driver managed to escape, however, the truck was nabbed by the Panchgram and Badarpur Police, last night.
In the earlier report published on Barak Bulletin, it was mentioned that Nilendu Rudra Paul, a resident of the Katogorah area and a member of Satarupa Durga Puja Committee has been declared dead. The death toll has now climbed up to three. Silchar Medical College and Hospital confirmed that Katirail resident and another member of the same Puja committee, Debabrata Goswami has also been declared dead.
The rampant truck had run over an auto-rickshaw. The heavy impact resulted in combustion and the passengers had to be rescued from the fire. As per the officer in charge of the Katigorah Police Outpost, Manuj Narzary, driver of the auto-rickshaw, Haidar Hussain has been declared dead.
Local sources have informed that around 12 individuals were rushed to the hospital severely wounded by the rampant truck. Doctors in Silchar Medical College and Hospital confirmed that around 10 accident-related cases were brought to the hospital’s Casualty Department. One more body has been sent to for post mortem. However, the doctors are yet to identify the body and therefore, it is not clear if it is a death due to the rampant truck.
It is Bijoya Dashami today and on the auspicious occasion, everyone is wishing each other. In front of the Casualty department of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the emotions are drowning in the ocean of tears. The cry and the cries are echoing all throughout.
