Twelve-year-old child goes missing while swimming in river at Dolu
A twelve-year-old boy went missing while swimming in the river Barak at Dolu in Cachar district on Tuesday.
The child Ashim Kumar Singh, is the son of Jitendra Singh, a resident of Manipuri Basti, Dolu and a daily wage-earner by profession. Dolu falls under Borkhola constituency, around 24km from Silchar.
According to sources, the incident took place around 10:40am this morning when Ashim, who studies at Kalinagar lower primary school, went to bath in the river. Ashim’s two sisters were with him at that time.
His sisters suddenly saw him drowning down following which they started screaming. Soon after that, some local residents rushed there and jumped into the river to rescue Ashim.
The matter was thereafter informed to the police after which a team of officials from Borkhola police station including assistant sub-inspector Zakir Hussain and few others reached the spot.
A search operation was carried out by a team of the state disaster response force (SDRF). However, the child could not be found out, as per last available reports.
